If the file is local, then type " dpkg -i package. Replace "package" with the name of the file. The command "dpkg" is the default Debian package manager. It is a command-line application. The "-i" parameter states installation and is followed by the path to the file to install.
Users may list one package or many separated by spaces. Most of these repositories are hosted by Launchpad. NOTE: When making package changes, the user is prompted before changes are made. Also, when installing packages, information is printed to the terminal about disk space that will be use and software that the package requires. NOTE: When referring to the file of a software package, include the file extension and path to file.
When referring to installed packages or a package in a repository, do not type ". Graphical Package Managers: Some users do not like command-lines. Thankfully, there are many alternative options. A frontend uses the command-line tool after the user provides the information via the graphical application.
Some of the package managers are discussed under the following headers, but this is not a complete list. Synaptic: Synaptic is an advanced package manager that installs deb packages from repositories. Users can search for packages and right-click the desired packages. Options include install, reinstall, remove, complete removal, upgrade, and unmark. After the user has marked changes to be made, they can click "Apply". The "Reload" button is used to update the software list by scanning the repositories.
On the bottom-left side of the screen, users can click buttons that place the packages into groups. Users can then click a group and make searches within that group. There are many other groups and categories. Most are self-explanatory. Last edited: Aug 23, DEB package which is not in that then you need to add its repo manually first then only this tool can be helpful. To more about this project info, click here. So, here in this tutorial, we will show you how to install the GDebi on Ubuntu or Debian and how to use and set it to default Debian package installer.
We are using Ubuntu For installing any package Click on the File option in Menu and then Open option. You can also remove the package from here too. To set this as default Debian package installer, just right-click on any deb package available on your Linux computer and select Properties option. So I should have switched to the Downloads folder before trying to instal. Now I know. That is pretty unclear but it seems that it won't allow you to update it. Try uninstalling the one you have and installing the new one.
Try the GUI method and tell me what happens. You can get it from Ubuntu Software store. I unistalled password-common as this was a conflict, but now Package libwxgtk3. So I tried to find and install the missing packages libwxgtk3. Done Building dependency tree Reading state information Done Package libwxgtk3. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source The same is true for the other 2 — MitcheCA.
Show 1 more comment. Other than dpkg command, you can install gdebi: sudo apt install gdebi gdebi uses in a transparent way dpkg for installing deb packages but also managing automatically the dependencies : so if you don't want to personally worry about dependencies, use gdebi.
Lorenz Keel Lorenz Keel 3, 4 4 gold badges 18 18 silver badges 31 31 bronze badges. I installed gdebi and tried to install passwordsafe-ubuntu It seems that now your problem is not "how to install a deb package" but "how to solve the dependency errrors".
The problem is that GDebi does not run as root on Lubuntu So you need to make ti run root. Yesterday upgraded to Ubuntu This is exactly what I needed. Ubuntu software installer has been painfully slow. This was a great alternative. Please log in again. The login page will open in a new tab. After logging in you can close it and return to this page. You can install gdebi from Software Center.
